Positioned beneath the cerebral cortex, the hippocampus is a vital element of the limbic system, with a significant role in functions such as spatial memory, navigation, and the transformation of short-term memories into long-term ones. These neurons act as both the structural and functional foundations of the brain, responsible for receiving sensory input and orchestrating the intricate neural pathways that underpin all cognitive functions, while also processing and transmitting electrical signals.
